The problem is that blue collar jobs often have LESS flexibility, especially in a remote work capacity, because they are tied to a trade which requires a physical presence and is built on a patriarchal system of men holding jobs and women staying with kids. In such a scenario, overtime and long work days or 24/7 call shifts were possible because of a stay at home mom.

But In the scenario you describe, the woman has more demands on her time than the man, which leaves the dually-employed couple to find childcare, which can run as much as a mortgage and easily eat up the entirety of a blue collar salary. And the higher the blue collar pay, as In oil field work, etc, the less flexible the work schedule. Boss says be there at 5am, you get there at 4:45 or you’re fired.

So really, this will likely exacerbate the skilled labor shortage in blue collar jobs, eventually (hopefully) fostering a shift in workplace expectations and values, in favor of families and humans in general.

One can hope, at least.
